Sporting Lisbon

Official Sporting Lisbon website - http://www.sporting.pt/

Tickets - Sell outs are extremely rare at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, and tickets are almost always available on the day of the match. If you do want to buy in advance, however, do so at the stadium ticket office or online at http://www.sporting.pt/Servicos/Bilhetes/Servicos_Bilhetes.asp

Stadium - Completely rebuilt for Euro 2004, the 52,000 seater Estadio Jose Alvalade is located north of the city centre and is easily reached by taking the green or orange metro line to Campo Grande.

Ultra Culture - Sporting's fan base is traditionally drawn from Lisbon's wealthier suburbs. Their Juventude Leonina (Lion Youth) ultras, housed in the South end, are Portugal's oldest ultra group, founded in 1976. The North end belongs to the Directivo Ultras XXI, who split from the Juventude Leonina in 2002.

Overview - Laid back by day, late and lively by night, Lisbon is an underrated capital city which plays host to two of Europe's most famous football institutions in Benfica and Sporting. Throw in year-round sunshine - what more do you want from a European Football trip?

Airports & Transfers - Portela Airport - four miles from the centre, connected by buses every 20mins, costing 3Euros. Taxi's 10-15Euros.

Nightlife - The tight streets of the Bairro Alto are chock-a-block with bars of all types, but beware - things don't really get going until around midnight. From 2am onwards head down towards the river where there are several clubs housed in converted warehouses, including the uber-cool Lux. Alternatively, get a cab down to the many bars/clubs under the 25 de Abril suspension bridge at Doca de Santo Amoro.

Shopping - Mainstream high street shopping can be had in any of the streets leading south from Rossio Square towards the river. For a more cutting edge selection head west to the Bairro Alto.
