Overview - Santander is a modern city with fine beaches and modest old town, much favoured by families from central Spain in the summer. Capital of the Cantabria region, its football team Racing have been mid-table steady-Eddies in La Liga for several years now.

Airport & Tranfers - Parayas Airport - four miles south of the city centre, linked by buses every 30mins taking 10-15mins. Tickets are 1.50Euros. Taxi's 15Euros.

Ferries from Plymouth also dock in the port.

Nightlife - A civilised and family-oriented city in the main, Santander's nightlife is largely centred on restaurants and tapas joints rather than straight up drinking gaffs. That said, there are bars aplenty around Calle Rio de la Pila and Plaza de Canadio in the old town, whilst in the summer there's a decent scene down by the main beach El Sardinio.
