European Football Stadiums

Getting to those specific European football stadiums of choice is always, for me, a highlight of any Continental football trip. Nothing beats the excitement and anticipation of crawling through the suburbs of a foreign city on a packed, boisterous tram or train, and catching that first glimpse of the floodlights or stands in the distance.

Again, www.stadiumguide.com and the aforementioned recommended guide books are great resources for getting directions to grounds. The now out of print, (and slightly out of date but still extremely useful), 'Rough Guide to European Football' is well worth hunting down on Ebay for a couple of quid as well.

Fans of European stadium architecture might also like to invest in the book ‘European Football Stadiums’ by Michael Heatley.

Better still, see if you can track down a copy of Simon Inglis’s out of print masterpiece, 'The Football Grounds of Europe'. They pop up on Ebay from time to time too and come highly recommended.
