Tickets - Fair play if you've managed to bag yourself a ticket via the official UEFA ticketing website. For the rest of us it'll be the usual hanging around train stations, haggling with touts for overpriced, unwanted corporate cast-offs. The main train station - Basel Badischer Bahnhof - is located on the right bank of the Rhine in Kleinbasel. Keep em peeled for scousers in tracksuits.
Stadium - With a newly expanded capacity of over 40,000, St Jakob Park is located a couple of miles south-east of the city centre. To get there catch Tram no. 14 from the Old Town or, if you're on the other side of the river, take a football special train from the Bahnhof.
Ultra Culture - FC Basel reside in St Jakob Park and are currently the best supported club in Switzerland, with crowds regularly hitting 20,000+.
Overview - With the Rhine coursing through its Swiss centre, Basel suffers from something of an identity crisis with its northern suburbs part of France, and Germany literally a stones throw away to the east. That said, it's still a major hub, plus home to Switzerland's biggest football club and stadium.
Airport & Transfers - Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport - 13 miles north-west of Basel, linked by bus no. 50, taking 20mins. Taxi's CHF40.
Nightlife - Not the livliest of places by all accounts, what nightlife there is is centred in and around Steinenvorstadt in the Old Town on the left bank of the Rhine (Grossbasel). There's a scene of sorts in Kleinbasel on the right bank too.
Shopping - Top retail address is Freie Strasse in the Old Town.
